U.S. EMBASSY IN PHNOM PENH HOSTS IDAHO NATIONAL GUARD COMMANDING GENERAL, BOLSTERS BILATERAL MILITARY RELATIONS
Phnom Penh – The U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh welcomed Major General Timothy Donnellan, commanding officer of the Idaho National Guard (IDNG), on September 15–16 for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral military cooperation.
During his visit, MG Donnellan toured the Training School for Multinational Peacekeeping Forces, where he engaged with Lt. Gen. Hout Kimsan, deputy director of the National Police and Military Education Center (NPMEC), and director of the Peacekeeping Operations (PKO) School. He observed the first IDNG–Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) Subject Matter Expert Exchange since 2019 — a milestone in revitalizing their long-standing partnership.
In addition to his activities at the training center, MG Donnellan held meetings with senior defense officials and key stakeholders to reaffirm the United States’ ongoing support for Cambodia’s peacekeeping efforts. The discussions also focused on advancing plans for the reestablishment of the State Partnership Program (SPP) between the Idaho National Guard and the RCAF, which aims to foster military cooperation, capacity building, and regional stability.
The U.S. embassy highlighted these engagements as significant steps in strengthening defense ties and promoting cooperation between the two nations’ armed forces. Officials emphasized the importance of collaboration in peacekeeping, training, and security initiatives, underscoring the United States’ commitment to supporting Cambodia’s security sector development.
